TAA Aircraft Fleet 1980-1992

The early 1980s marked one of the most significant turning points in Australian aviation when the Federal Government began easing restrictions under the tightly controlled Two-Airline Policy. To remain competitive, TAA made history by introducing the Airbus A300B4—becoming the first Australian domestic airline to operate a true wide-body aircraft. This technological leap expanded further in May 1985 when TAA placed an order for twelve Boeing 737-300 aircraft. Entering service in 1986 following the airline's transition to Australian Airlines, the Boeing 737-300 introduced cutting-edge fuel efficiency, quieter engines, and the world's first full EFIS 'glass cockpit' on a 737, serving as the modern narrow-body backbone of the Australian Airlines fleet.
