TAA Video Archive

The TAA Video Archive features historic Trans-Australia Airlines footage, archival commercials, engineer simulators, and cockpit crew training displays.

Welcome to the TAA Video Archive, a growing collection of films relating to Trans-Australia Airlines, its history, and its development as a major national airline within Australia. From museum tours and engineering deep dives to archival newsreels and vintage television commercials, these videos capture the people, aircraft and moments that shaped Australian aviation.

Several films also showcase exhibits currently found in the TAA Museum Collection, giving you a preview of what you can see in person. Please check back regularly, as more films are added over time.

TAA Video Archive: Museum Tour

A short overview of some of the exhibits in the Museum Collection. This video was taken at the old TAA Museum site in York Street, Airport West, and it shows how the collection was presented to visitors there. We've since moved to an amazing new space in Tullamarine with a completely revamped collection and much more to see! Watching the tour is a great way to get a feel for the museum's story before planning your own visit.

TAA Video Archive – JT8D Engine Simulator

The museum now has an engine simulator used to train TAA engineers in jet engine mechanics. The video itself has been taken from an active display at the Museum, which you can visit any time. It gives a closer look at the technical side of the airline's operations and the training equipment that supported its engineers.

TAA Video Archive – Avalon Airshow 2015

This film clip shows the TAA display set up at the Avalon Airshow in 2015. We also have a picture gallery devoted to the Avalon Airshow, which includes several photographs from the day itself. Our booth at the Airshow was a roaring success, with hundreds of visitors reminiscing about the Golden Age of Aviation. The clip is a lovely reminder of how much the airline still means to the people who flew with it and worked for it.

Boeing 727 Arrives in Australia

This film clip is from British Pathe / Cinesound via YouTube and the National Film and Sound Archive, Australia. This informative clip was created to inform viewers of the new Boeing 727-100 Whispering T-jets that TAA brought to Australia. It is a valuable piece of archival footage that shows how the arrival of these aircraft was presented to the public at the time.

Boeing 727 Whispering T‑Jet Engineering Deep Dive

A deep dive into the engineering highlights of the Boeing 727‑100/200, presented by Andras Sobester. It is well worth watching if you enjoy the technical detail of how these aircraft were designed. You can check out more of his amazing videos here.

Whispering T‑Jet TV Commercials

These commercials promoted the introduction of the Boeing 727 T‑Jets to the TAA fleet. Together they offer a glimpse of how the airline spoke to its passengers and presented its new aircraft on television.

TAA VH-AES Douglas DC-3 "Hawdon"

Paul Stewart has graciously provided an amazing video of the VH-AES TAA DC-3 Hawdon in action on ANZAC Day. Maintained in fully airworthy condition by HARS, "Hawdon" and other historic fleet aircraft regularly take to the skies to honor veterans with regional commemorative flyovers. Seeing a TAA aircraft in the air today is a memorable way to connect with the airline's heritage.
